This past Wednesday, April 29th, the three language honor societies held their induction ceremony in the Grabowski Auditorium for their family, friends, and classmates to attend. The Spanish National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, and The National English Honor Society all inducted junior members into their chapters and gave graduation cords to their senior members Wednesday night.
Induction ceremonies like this one commemorate the hard work that students have put in not only to become, but to remain members of their honor societies.
“These kids have been working at this for years and years and so I think everybody deserves a moment across that stage,” says advisor for The National English Honor Society, Mr. Jefferies.
Despite being the newest of the honor societies, NEHS has smoothly transitioned to become a part of the induction night. This open and collaborative nature is something the language honor societies pride themselves on according to FNHS president, Yu-Ann Chen.
“Especially with what’s going on in the world nowadays I think it’s more important than ever to include everyone and to celebrate diversity at our school.”
The night did an excellent job highlighting the importance of culture and education, not only were cords awarded to students who were members of honor societies but to those who achieved seals of biliteracy in spanish, french, and other languages.
“Whether they mastered French, Spanish, Mandarin, or just simply English it’s wonderful to see kids who have really excelled in the languages, and I hope they go into a world prepared to communicate and collaborate with that skill,” continued Jefferies.
The induction night continues to grow, with new languages represented and new students being honored each and every year. Yu-Ann Chen is proud of what the induction means to BHS as a whole.
“There were over ten languages represented tonight. It’s a great way to celebrate the students that come from different backgrounds and cultures.”
