The girls basketball team made a run in the MIAA tournament during the 2026 basketball playoffs in hopes to take home the championship. They made it to the elite eight, but the run came to an end last Friday March 6th, when they lost against Bishop Feehan 44 – 53.
The girls basketball team was pumped about their run in the playoffs this year.
“Everyone was just really excited to compete”, explained Junior Kate Sweeney .
They had to be able to rely on each other to play on a higher level to prepare for these huge games.
“Our team really focused in practice and we really pushed each other to get better so we could be prepared to play difficult teams,” says sophomore Julia Brown.
The girls have such a strong connection and bond with each other that helps them on and off the court. The team’s teamwork and communication keeps them pushing each other forward.
Kate says, “next year I think if we come in with the same mentality things will work out. We will have to adjust since we won’t have Frankie Mazzini, but I hope to go further next year and to continue to be a strong team”.
All the girls definitely wanted to end with a championship but Julia says “everyone played their hearts out and it just did not come out the way we wanted”.
The girls ended 7th in the state and are ready to come back harder and stronger next year as they continue to push through hard practices, long basketball days, and personal grinds on and off the court.
