The softball team is off to a strong start this season, holding a 4–1 record as their early progress reflects noticeable improvement on the field. Sophomore Kate Fosco pointed to the team’s growth and development as a key factor behind their success.
“So even though we had captain’s practices last year, a lot more players on the team and off the team showed up. We all got to work together, play together, hit together and then there were also some other optional hitting groups that people attended as well. I think everyone is just putting in more effort this year.”
Head Coach Jenkins, who has been Braintree’s long term softball coach, gave her thoughts on her team’s improvement and what contributed to the strong start.
“I think last year was an important development year. We had an incredibly young team last year. I remember looking around during one game and only one player was in the same position that they had played in the previous season, so it was definitely a year of growth and our entire team came back stronger and hungry for wins because they know how talented they are and they know that they’re capable of winning games and that helped them come out strong in game one. We knew during tryouts that they were ready.”
If the varsity softball team continues to build onto their early success, the team looks well positioned to have a strong competitive season ahead of them.
