BHS’s beloved lunch lady, Lucia Doria, was awarded School Nutrition Association Employee Of The Year for 2026. This award, given by the Northeast Region of the School Nutrition Association, goes to one school employee each year. Because of Lucia’s genius ideas to hang up napkins and utensils for better flow as well as being on such a personal level with all of the students, many of the students of Braintree agree that this was well deserved.
“I don’t know if I deserve it, but I was surprised. I was humbled and honored by it. I do dedicate myself to the kids every day and I was happy for getting it,” demurs Lucia.
Lucia is adored by all of our students here at the high school.
“Lucia really brightens my day. Every time I see her I get so excited, it’s such a great past of my day. I love how she actually wants to have a conversation with me,” says Sophomore Nailah Watson.
Even short conversations wish Lucia can be just enough to give students that little smile and laugh that they needed to get through the day.
“I love seeing them, and they love seeing me. I know that they appreciate me and I appreciate them, and I look forward to seeing them every single day. And I noticed when they’re out, and I say, Oh, you weren’t here? You okay? So I take notice of every student here. I love it,” explains Lucia.
“I just get a smile on my face. I love saying hi to her because she will always smile and say hi back, always making me feel welcome,” agrees sophomore Julia Brown.
