The annual NCAA basketball tournament, known as March Madness, brought some excitement to Braintree High. Students and staff spent the last few weeks making brackets, attempting to predict the winners of as many of these games as possible, and watching tournament games. Sometimes, even more than one game at a time.
“I feel like the tournament just gives us something to look forward to and makes the month more exciting,” said sophomore Nick Berman. “I just think it makes the month go by a bit easier because we have something to look forward to.”
This opinion is shared between many students at BHS. However, some students have thoughts about how this tournament has its pros and cons.
“I do think that March Madness has affected the environment of the classroom a bit during school time, but it’s awesome to see,” adds sophomore Nathan Tran. “Everyone is rooting for one team or another, and it’s interesting to watch during school. I just love how it’s bringing people together.”
This tournament affected the entire school in one way or another. However, despite enjoying the tournament themselves, teachers find that the tournament creates a challenge in their teaching.
“So, whatever class I have last block, the first question when they walk in the doors is can we watch the game,” says Mr. Krall. “But I only pay attention to college basketball during March Madness.”
Although these teachers are affected by March Madness, they can not help but enjoy the tournament themselves.
“There was a little bit of extra energy and excitement in the room, which you can get upset about,” says Ms. Rodzwicz. “But at the same time, it’s March, so anything that brings a little life, a little energy, a little joy, I don’t mind seeing a little bit of that.”
