On December 3, 2025, Braintree High’s very own Mr. Buckley released his album Broadcast on many streaming platforms. The album contains various melodies played on piano.
“Digital tech has come so far. There’s so much DIY stuff that you can do,” explained band teacher Mr. Buckley, regarding the process of creating the album. “Where I spent most of the money wasn’t actually in the recording, but in finding an awesome sound engineer. It’s not like we had to rent studio space. We used a studio at Clark University, and we used my friend Cooper’s apartment.”
Cooper is Buckley’s sound engineer who took care of the production of the album. They were able to record the album without any complex technology because the songs were solo piano pieces. The aim of the album was not to be extremely fancy either. Buckley did it more for himself than anyone else.
“It’s not like I’m looking for record sales. I just wanted to get all these musical ideas to fruition. It’s out there, and so far, I’ve seen people are digging it.”
Although Mr. Buckley is a beloved music teacher at Braintree High, and many of his students are fond of his work, his project was not created in relation to his profession.
“I almost want to be away from that and just be an artist, you know? It’s kind of tough to do that here, to try to get creative, because you’re working with kids. There’s always someone who has a question. Someone always needs something.”
Even with his various responsibilities, Buckley still manages to find time to get creative and write original music.
“I usually just like to write my thoughts out, but then sometimes they just don’t happen. I just don’t get them. That’s where I’m like, never mind,” said Buckley. “Sometimes a lot of stuff pours out, and sometimes you’re like, I guess I’m not writing anything today.”
Buckley wants his students to experience this creative process too, hoping that it will benefit them artistically. Composing means more to him than solely playing music written by other musicians.
“If you’re not careful, you know, you’ll let all these performances rule the whole curriculum. I want to make sure that anyone who takes any class with me has the opportunity to compose original music.”
Twice a month, Mr. Buckley pauses what his classes are working on and has what he likes to call, “Composition Fridays.” This is his way of keeping a passion for creating music alive not only in his students, but within himself.
“It’s one of the most intoxicating things you can have happen. It’s just to feel that you’re coming up with something original that people might like. That’s the therapy.”
Regardless of the obstacles he faces, Buckley perseveres to create because of what doing so means to him.
“To me, to create, aside from any important people in my life, it’s right up there, you know. It’s a very personal thing that anyone can tap into.”
