Last Thursday, the 4th of December, Braintree hosted their annual tree lighting ceremony in front of Town Hall. Organized by the Recreation and Community Events Department, the annual tree lighting provided hot chocolate and holiday cheer, and even marked the second year of a new community event.
“It’s a little colder this year than we’re used to but it’s still a great time,” shared assistant Recreation and Community Events Coordinator, Christopher Griffin.
Griffin was in charge of organizing the event, which featured the new ‘Festival of Trees’ for its second year, where local businesses and residents donate Christmas trees and raffle baskets to raise money for the Braintree community and decorate the town of Braintree this holiday season. This year, over 50 different businesses donated to the cause and helped the community come together. Braintree resident, mom, and Town Council member Meredith Boericke shared her thoughts on the new event.
“It’s been an awesome community building event in town, and they’re expanding it this year. It’s a lot of good work for a lot of great causes in Braintree.”
The event even had a guest star, which Director of Recreation Brendan Croak was thrilled to see.
“Everybody loves seeing Santa and he showed up on time. We’re happy it was a great night.”
