On a typical Sunday night in Braintree, November 23rd, many town residents gathered in darkness as the town suffered a power outage.
The Town of Braintree put out a statement on Facebook, “Around 6:30 PM, a transmission line that supplies power to our plant went down, resulting in a regional power outage that impacted a significant portion of Braintree and some neighboring towns.”
In the unprecedented event, family members and friends gathered in support of one another.
“I was at my aunt’s house, and I just distracted my cousins while my parents and family got lights for everyone,” said Braintree Junior Jacky Chen.
After finding out of the situation, Mr. Keuther ensured the situation would remain stable with the work of the school’s superintendent.
“Our practice is to make sure everyone in leadership is aware of what was happening in town,” expressed the principal. “In the event it would impact school, we can make arrangements if needed.”
Despite the week being shortened due to Thanksgiving, students still hoped for a delay in the school day on Monday. However, Braintree’s response system was designed to get things up and running again, quickly.
Around ten o’clock at night, the Town of Braintree put out a second statement on facebook, stating “Braintree Electric Light Department (BELD) has restored all power.”
