This past weekend, East Middle School held their annual show for the East Middle School Theater Guild. While last year’s production was “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” East did something different this year: a variety show called New Kids on the Block.
The variety show takes place at the East Middle School Musical every other year, which provides various performances where students can show their talents on stage, differing from the traditional musical. Tech Captain Hannah Alter was able to give some insight on the topic.
“There isn’t much of a difference for the crew” says Alter, “but for casting, there’s less effort that needs to go into it for casting/choreography, because everyone goes on once.”
Not only does the variety show bring new performances to the stage, but also creates new bonds between participants, producers, and teachers.
“The show brings together the community, [performers] don’t necessarily have to have an acting talent but they get to do what they love, which gets a variety of people to participate, and it was pretty successful” said Alter.
The East Middle School Theater Guild works very hard yearly to produce their shows, and this year, their hard work paid off, with talent catching the eye of Braintree High School Theater Guild Producer Keira Carrara.
“I mean, as someone who did that show way back, I would say that it seemed everything went well” says Carrara, “tech and cast, they all did super well, and I hope they continue on in high school!”
