The popular social media app, Tiktok, has recently established its own shopping system which has grown in popularity amongst users of the app, especially the younger generations. Tiktok shop has been compared to other online shops including Shein and Temu but this shop contains more “coupons” and even more affordable prices.
“I bought a few items off of the TikTok shop” said junior Jackson Gunning, “I bought some Pokémon card packs and received them pretty hastily.”
Junior Tye Tran also shopped off Tiktok, “I bought an ice roller and freeze dried skittles. I think it’s an easier way to buy stuff and you can get pretty good deals, the shipping is just very expensive.”
This new shopping platform can be seen as beneficial in its new affordable prices and quick deliveries, but it is also seen as another controversial online scam, wasting customer’s money.
“I don’t trust it with my card, I am way too scared for that!” expressed junior Nicole Spataro.
“It’s all cheap items that you could get anywhere else: also I heard TikTok steals information,” said junior Molly O’Shea.
Tiktok shop has become a hub for small businesses to thrive. Consumers can benefit off of new deals and access to small companies they wouldn’t have access to anywhere else.
“I think with the growing number of shops and marketplaces around the world [making] another one is not needed, but the deals on TikTok I believe are crazy good which is why it’s definitely significant in my eyes.” added junior Jackson Gunning.
