The Best buddies club had their first party of the year on October 8th after school in the Braintree High School cafeteria. Each month this club puts on an in school and out of school party, prompting students to build friendships outside of the regular school day. They value inclusion and are always welcoming new members.
“This is our first party in the school year. We’re very excited and incorporate kids from specialized programs with kids at Braintree High and it makes them part of the Braintree High community. They do a variety of different activities like paintings and crafts and they have fun games. It’s typically themed with what’s going on each month, but the kids always look forward to it,” explains Best Buddies advisor Ms.Quintilliani.
There were about 50 students in attendance and they were active in everything, from helping and bonding with each other to painting pumpkins. There were also tables with different activities like coloring, sponge painting, craft making, a ring toss, and even musical dots.
“Honestly, I chose to come here’ cause it’s nice helping the kids out, and it’s not really about benefits for me. It’s just having fun with them, having a good time, so that’s why I come,” says Best Buddies member Chris Farrow.
Beyond students having a great time participating in the activities at the party, others appreciated the choice of music like 10th grader Wills Brennan:
“I’m enjoying the fact that they’re playing Taylor Swift at the party. And I’ve been a Swiftie for a long time and the half day will mark two years of being a Swiftie, so I think playing Taylor Swift at this party is just perfect.”
