On Wednesday, September 24th, Cultural Connections Club kicked off with its opening meeting. Every year, Cultural Connections brings awareness to the multiple different cultures that BHS holds. For many years, including the start of last year, Cultural Connections was an unpopular club, until two students changed the club for the better.
“Last year, we tried to get it kicked off in the fall and got very little interest,” said club advisor Mr. Krall. “About midway through the year, Joe Mcdonald and Ethan Lam came by and were interested in reviving it. “
Determined to expand the club, Ethan and Joe found ways to get more people involved.
“I joined the club because, originally, I wanted to learn about culture, and my friend did as well, so we thought about joining it with Mr. Krall because we both had him as a teacher,” says Senior Ethan Lam. “A lot of our friends joined at the start, and after that, we went mouth to mouth to spread the club from there.”
Mr. Krall is confident in his choice to leave the club in the students’ hands in hopes of achieving more.
“[The club] will take the direction that the students evolved. In past years we’ve done other field trips, and we want to highlight the cultural heritage month every month.”
Ethan, who is in his Senior year, is not done with the club just yet. He is certain that more things can be done with cultural connections in BHS.
“I want to do more things around the school. I want to make the school more aware about culture and the club, as I don’t think a lot of people knew about the club coming into this year.”
