With the class of 2026, 2027, and 2028 having their president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and representatives already elected and in office this year, there still remains one class awaiting their student leaders to take charge. The class of 2029 is holding their elections Wednesday, October 8th during an extended homeroom period in the morning.
“It’s always important to vote when you are given an opportunity,” says assistant principal Mr. Riordan. “These are the students that are going to be setting the tone for the remainder of the year…make sure to pick people that are like-minded to you.”
Student council is an ongoing student civic organization that has been recorded to be here at Braintree High since at least 1993. It features 4 officer positions for each grade, along with a number of student representatives, all looking to achieve the same goal, to act as voice and leadership for the Braintree High School student body.
“Everyone needs to feel like their voice and opinions are heard and wanted,” says freshman presidential candidate Candice Coombs. “It ensures a positive experience for all.”
Every role serves its own purpose, secretary candidate Anna Savage shares what it takes to be an efficient secretary.
“The secretary keeps everything organized and running smoothly. Without keeping things organized, our school can’t be united to make smart decisions.”
Along with these new freshmen looking to shine in the student council, there is a new advisor stepping into the big role of being in charge of these students.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever done it in my 20 years here,” exclaims class advisor Mr. Krall. “I’m gonna rely a lot on people who have served as advisors in the past…Once we figure out what we have then I think some ideas will come”
