The BHS theater guild has announced their fall show: Urinetown.
In Previous years, the theater guild has painted all of their sets themselves. For Anastasia, The Unsinkable Molly Brown and all previous BHS fall shows, the theater guild’s ‘art crew’ was in charge of set design. Now, things are looking to change.
“Usually for every show we paint brand new sets and we need as many people as possible,” describes NAHS vice president and long time member of theater guild’s tech crew, Victor Mankowski.
Victor describes how The National Art Honors Society (NAHS) is taking over set painting responsibility and hopes to bring more talent to the paint team.
“We just need some extra help and NAHS is willing.”
Director of tech, Mr Ferguson, says he hopes set painting will be a very different experience for NAHS members.
“It gives them a new skill. Set painting is an art form, and that’s not something you usually think about when you think about fine arts.”
While some theater guild members like Victor were already involved in the tech department, the opportunity to paint sets is also peaking the interest of new students.
“There has been tremendous student interest,” says NAHS advisor Ms. Young. “It’s a great group of kids.”
Although production for the show has just begun, theater and NAHS both are excited to work with people outside of their usual communities. Ferguson in particular is excited to have more hands on deck.
“I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to get more students involved in a different capacity.”
