On Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, Fortnite mobile was reintroduced in the iOS App Store after 4 long years. Fans of the game have been awaiting Fortnite’s return.
“[On mobile] I could play it at school when I had the time or just simply whenever I wanted to outside,” junior Tye Tran expressed.
The game originally got removed in August of 2020 when Epic Games, the company that created Fortnite, added a direct payment method to buy in-game currency which bypassed Apple’s in-app purchase system. This led to the start of a 4 year hiatus.
“When it got removed, I was confused and kinda mad,” junior Jayden Lee said.
With the removal of Fortnite on mobile devices, people started to switch to other methods of playing the game, either through console or PC. The reliance on these other methods lends to the fact that playing on mobile is underwhelming.
“I feel like it’s fun to play now that it’s back. I play during study halls, but I prefer playing on PC. It’s easier and I can build better,” Tye said.
Even though the return of the game signified the end of a 4-year-long battle, fans of Fortnite are not maintaining play on mobile devices.
Jayden said, “I feel like I don’t want to play anymore on mobile since there are other pretty good competitors who took the spotlight, like Call of Duty: Mobile. Also I have it on my PC which is way better.”
