The Braintree High School AP Human Geography classes visited Hornstra Farm in Norwell last Friday, March 14th. The field trip provides a learning experience into Unit 5 of the course, where they learn about family run farms and corporate agriculture. Students were able to see first hand what it is like working on a local farm in their area.
“It was interesting how the farmers worked 24/7. They walked us through the farm and we saw how the milk was produced and we saw the baby cows,” says sophomore Alexis Chueng.
Each year, the class visits the farm, showing students a lot of the concepts they learn in the agriculture unit in real life. Mr Haupert also explains how “We learn about sustainable farming practices, we learn about conventional vs organic farming, and the decisions that farmers have to make.”
Hornstra Farms offered an eye opening experience about how dairy was made. Lauren Caranog had this to say about her experience visiting the farm.

“I loved being able to see cows and ask questions about them, and I definitely learned a lotta stuff that I never knew before.”
Overall, the students enjoyed the field trip, and Mr. Haupert does not plan to stop anytime soon.
“Never, we will come back here every year!”
