The Braintree High School Girls Varsity Gymnastics team has just finished their competitive ‘24-’25 winter season, and finished fourth overall in the Bay State league Conference.
“The gymnastics season was really good,” and was a great way, “to meet new people and build a community,” says sophomore Kiera Tran tells us of her first year on the team.
The girls team ended up finishing with an outstanding 5-3 record this year.
“I think this year is a little bit better than last year record wise,” states athletic director, Charles Binghman. “2 athletes get scores of 9.0 which is a pretty difficult score at the high school level.”
Kiera Tran and Meghan Matheny’s performance on the bars this season helped the team secure their spot.
Coach Deb Duprey has been leading the team for the past 35 years.
“She has a lot of experience and the team really gels well and they enjoy it, so it’s a good coach and good group of kids,” says Bingham of Coach Duprey.
Though the team is losing 4 seniors this year, Ava Rynne (Captain), Manya Saokar (Captain), Camryn Walsh (Captain), and Maeva Julien. Current sophomore Keira Tran is optimistic about the future.
“Next year we’re gonna have 5 seniors…I’m really excited cause the year after that I [hope] to be captain,” explains Tran. “I feel like a lot of people don’t know that we have a gymnastics community, so if they have any gymnastics experience they should try out cause I don’t know if we have that many freshmen coming in next year.”
