Braintree Is Final Four Bound

On Friday, March 7th, Braintree High Hegret gymnasium was packed as the number four ranked Braintree girls Basketball defeated number fifth ranked Woburn Tanners.

“I feel like all the fans and our community coming to the games definitely impacts how everyone plays,” says junior Francesca Mazzini. “What happens during the game is really fun and a good environment for everyone.”

This environment was from the first whistle to the last buzzer. Braintree took an early lead and held onto it until the fourth quarter. As the game went on the Tanners did seem to narrow the gap proving a threat to the hopeful wamps.

Throughout the game you could hear both, “Let’s go Braintree,” and, “Let’s go Woburn,” chants coming from both supporting sections. As the crowd stayed loud, the determined Tanners came within one point and needed just one more basket to potentially take the lead. But, as a result of fouls; Braintree gained two more points before the final seconds.

As the basketball bounced off the backboard, the bench jumped up and sprinted out with excitement as the Wamps became final four bound. The moment was special for this Braintree team, but their last few years have not always been this way.

“I am very proud of everyone, in my four years here we have not made it this far,” says senior Kiana O’Sullivan, “so I am very excited to continue to see what this team can do.”

The Braintree Wamps have had a breakout season this season as last year they were knocked out in the round of thirty two after a eleven wins and eleven loss season. The team hopes to continue pushing to new heights as they play at 6:00pm, Tuesday, March 11th at Woburn High School against number one ranked Wachusetts regional.
