The Braintree High Boys varsity Basketball team is ready for their first round playoff game against Lexington at Herget gymnasium on Friday, February 28th. Throughout the season, the boys have overcome many challenges, and the hard work has earned them great accomplishments. On February 7th, 2025, Braintree was able to beat Needham 61-44 away at Needham to win the league.
“Winning the league at Needham was good,” varsity coach Mr.Crook says, “Needham had won the league 8 years in a row, so to wrap it up in Needham was even more significant.”
There was one specific dividing factor that separated this season and previous seasons for the basketball team this year. .
“I think because this team is experienced,” shared Mr.Crook, “going through games last year and going through things together since around third grade, we were able to manage close games really well.”
Braintree took their defeats from last year and turned them into motivation for this year. For senior captain, Calum McClorey, that was a close away game in which they were defeated by King Phillip 67-64.
“We have revenge on our mind after a tough loss last year. Whoever it is [we play], we’ll make our best effort.”
The team is determined that if they continue to have a good attitude, they can shine in the playoffs.
“I feel in practice we’re all working super hard,” says Senior Captain Jared Coughlin. “No one thinks they’re better than another, which helps a lot, so we’re just going to [continue to] work extra hard in practice like always and we’ll see.”
