Although February break has come to an end, seniors can find a little less disappointment because of it with the start of a very well known tradition at BHS: senior privileges. If a senior has a study hall at the end of the day or at the beginning of the day, they are able to leave school early or enter school late, respectively, during those blocks.
Both administration and students believe this perk is beneficial.
“I think that they have earned this privilege along with their roles as leaders of the school,” says Mr. Delery. “One aspect of the attendance requirement is that students cannot have more than 8 tardies in the previous term. I do believe that the desire to earn senior privileges does help ensure that students do not go over 8 tardies in the previous term.”
“Being able to get another extra hour of sleep because of it, or being able to leave early to go get homework done earlier so you can sleep more, I think, it’s definitely a nice addition,” says senior Sean Dowd. “Because you know, end of the day, early in the day, not many people will be that productive anyways.”
“Especially for [student] athletes, I would say, getting to go home a little early and get situated and changed and not having to lug everything around school, I think, is very beneficial if you can just stop home,” senior and track athlete Suzanna Bergsten also adds.
Senior privileges are only available to those who have completed the permission form on time, but if you’ve missed it, another form will be available at the beginning of term four.
