On the night of Thursday, February 13th, the Braintree High School art department had an exciting show as they marked their annual Coffee House. Still in its infancy, this is only the third year that band director Mr. Buckley and art teacher Ms. Young have teamed up to transform classroom 295 to show off the talents of their students. The night was full of life, as were all of the many performances.
But what was the night really about? “Energy” says Mr. Buckley. “The energy was pretty amazing, we had a little run through this afternoon. The performers were all jumping out of their skin.”
A lot of it was thanks to sophomore Kiera Carrara, the Emcee for the night who hosted trivia and the prize raffle.
“I was trying to bring all of the energy, all of it totally. I was trying to get the crowd engaged and excited and it seemed to be working. I’m really happy about the turnout, and it was pretty awesome,” said Carrara.
Ms. Young provided her room and hosted the night alongside Mr. Buckley.
“I feel like in the school, so many events are structured, but this is a lot more free flowing and it’s more organic. People are performing and it’s not like everybody’s staring at you. It’s not just about making art, it’s about community and being together in a simple, awesome way,” said Young.
While some performers felt the pressure of the whole night, the event maintained a positive attitude.
“I was very nervous, especially when people brought out their flashlights,” expressed Anabella Tang. “Every single person in this production was very talented and it was a very sweet environment. Though it was nerve-wracking, I appreciated the crowd cheering and it was an experience I’ll never forget.”
