The Braintree High Ski Club has been hosting their annual overnight ski trips for many years now. On Friday, January 31st, 104 students and 6 faculty members headed out to the North Conway Grand Hotel in New Hampshire for the 2025 trip. They then headed out to Attitash Mountain the next day and hung out with friends on the snow before heading back to Braintree that same night.
“I am very happy with how this year’s trip turned out. I think it went pretty smoothly and there weren’t any major catastrophes,” said Mr. Baker, the Ski Club advisor.
He added that after the trip, many students had come up to him in the hallway telling him how much fun they had, already looking forward to next year’s trip.
Ivan Petrov, a junior who had been attending these trips for the past few years, shared his thoughts, “The ski trip was very fun as always and I’m definitely going again next year. It feels good to spend time with your friends and hang out and I think that the hotel experience also makes us feel more independent, too.”
If a student wants to go on the trip next year, but doesn’t have any gear, they don’t have to worry because students “do not need to bring their own gear. Many students choose a package that includes an equipment rental from Attitash. This year about 70 students rented equipment,” explained Mr. Baker.
Even students with little to no experience in skiing went on these trips. Carwa Chen, another junior who had been going on these ski trips, shared his experiences, “The ski trip is something that I look forward to every year ever since the first time I went in freshman year. You don’t necessarily need to know how to ski. I went skiing for the first time while I was on this trip, and if you have some buddies to go with, it makes it even more fun.”
This was Mr. Baker’s third year in charge but the tradition has been going on for many years under Dr. Ford-Clark, the previous advisor. Although the pandemic had paused the trip for a few years, it finally managed to kick back up again and Mr. Baker said that the Ski Club “built the trip back up to the level of participation that it was up to before the pandemic.”
Dohoon Kong, a freshman who went on the trip, remarked, “This year’s ski trip was probably one of my favorite school trips. I would 100% go next year and recommend everyone to come also.”
