A Snowy Disappointment

On February 5th, 2025, at 4:46pm, Braintree High School sent out a notice via ParentSquare, known to students as StudentSquare, stating that a snowstorm on Thursday morning had a chance to cause a district wide closure.

The notice sent out on Wednesday afternoon stated, “No changes to school for tomorrow planned at this point. We will monitor the situation tonight and would make any final decision about schools’ status around 5am tomorrow.”

Many students saw this as a subtle confirmation that school would be canceled, even though the closure was never confirmed.

“I was mad; I woke up and my throat hurt, but my heart hurt even more seeing that they didn’t cancel school” Senior Charlenz Fong stated.

As the morning of February 6th came, there was an overarching feeling of dread between the majority of students due to everyone being disappointed by school still being open, despite the flurries Braintree is facing.

When asked his thoughts about the situation, Braintree High teacher Mr. Keaney responded, “I got a false sense of security…I got a text at 6:15 saying that school was normal, but hey we made it through the day, it looks kind of iffy out there now though but let’s hope for safe travels.”
