The Braintree High School theater guild has been a long-standing and well-known club at the high school, bringing the town together to enjoy the winter musical every year, as well as numerous spring plays. Although the school’s theater program is so prominent, students have also been seeking out theater opportunities outside of school. The Company Theater is located in Norwell and is the place many BHS students have been gravitating towards for out-of-school acting opportunities. This month, The Company Theater is putting on the musical, Hadestown, which will feature two Braintree High School students, Antoine Powell, and Adam Hammond.
There are many differences between being in a school theater compared to an off-campus theater.
“It’s much more organized,” says Antoine Powell. “At BHS, tech week is when we scramble to get it all together, but here we’re actually in a really good spot, even only on the second day of tech week.”
Hammond will be assuming the role of Hades, and Powell, a member of ensemble.
“This is my first ever musical and first ever theater production I’ve been on stage for that was beyond one scene,” continues Powell. “For being my first time, it’s been going very smoothly, so for that I’m very happy.”
Hadestown can be seen from Friday, January 17th to Sunday, January 26th at the Company Theater.
