This past week, members from Braintree High’s DECA club took a trip to Quincy for the District One conference.
DECA is an organization that prepares students to become leaders in their community. It sets up students for future careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.
“We go against people around our district. Some of our competitors were Plymouth, Marshfield, Weymouth, and Quincy.” Explains DECA Co-President, Mackenzie Pham.
According to the DECA website, there are three categories of competition: role-plays and case studies, prepared events and online simulations. Within these groups students choose a specific career type: marketing, finance, hospitality and management, and entrepreneurship.
“We had about forty students compete, which was around three times more students participating in the conference this year” Explains Mackenzie Pham.
A total of eight students will advance to states: Irini Kollcinaku, Nicole Mac, Emily Pham, Kaitlyn Truong, Deon Li, Danny Nyugen, Levinson Yang, and Jacob Brabant.
The end of this competition isn’t the end for this club. There’s still a lot to look forward to.
“We’re looking forward to planning and hosting many fun, business-related activities since the beginning of the year was more focused on the conference.” Explains, DECA Vice President of Marketing, Emily Pham.
DECA is already preparing for their next competition. This club hopes to keep up their success for the future.
“This year was a huge accomplishment. We hope this year will lay a solid foundation for the oncoming and future Braintree DECA members.” Says DECA Vice President of Marketing, Emily Pham.
