In the past eight years, Braintree’s Students against destructive decisions club have remained the winners of the Red Ribbon photo competition for seven years in a row. Ms.Sarte is the advisor of the club and takes pride in coming up with a creative idea for the photo each year with the help from her students.
“Part of the rules of the photo is that the double looped red ribbon and this year’s theme are also included, which is why we included the banner,” shared Ms.Sarte.
Along with just snapping a photo, there is way more to it. SADD proudly has over one hundred members, and it takes a lot of effort to organize and capture everyone into one photo. This year, Mr.Nellis will be using his drone to get the job done.
Ms.Sarte said, “This year’s theme was “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free” so we decided to make a star around the B on the football field, like “movie star” and we added popcorn and a clapboard”
This year’s t-shirt theme is “Lights, Camera, SADD”. Senior, Sadie Webster came up with the idea for the shirt after Ms.Sarte had a hard time coming up with a design for it. Members of the club will plan to wear the shirts, and form a star formation on the “B” at Alumni Stadium on Thursday October 24th to then enter the photo for the competition.
“We were trying to incorporate the Red Ribbon Week theme into our shirts, so we wanted to use a clapboard and then Sadie came up with ‘Lights, Camera, SADD’ and we all loved it”
As reigning champions, SADD members hope to see another win this school year. If successful, the club will be awarded with $1,000 to be used towards substance abuse prevention education. They hope to use this prize money towards prom speakers this year, to hold assemblies prior to prom about safe decision making during prom season.
To support the club, people may vote once every 24 hours, starting at 9am on Saturday 11/2. The link will be provided below.
