Braintree High School’s annual homecoming dance took place this past Saturday on October 19th. This year faculty and staff administered a time requirement on the dance. Students are not permitted to arrive later than 6:30 and must stay until at least 8:30. Students were irritated with the new time requirements.
“This is my first year at this school, and they never did that at my last school, so I thought it was pretty weird. I guess it was fine though; we got out eventually,” said junior Matthew Morelli, who was at the homecoming dance.
Students even attempted to stage a walkout, and the LadyWamps official instagram account even made a post about it.
Braintree High Senior Sadie Driscoll described what happened. “I looked at my phone, and on LadyWamps Instagram, their story said, ‘WALKOUT AT 7:30!!’ but it didn’t end up working.”
The attempted walkout consisted of hundreds of students surrounding the exit and asking to leave.
Braintree High freshman Dylan McClorey told us what he saw at the homecoming dance. “I was buying water at the table, and I turned around, and there were like 200 kids all crowding the door. It looked like a riot.”
After a lot of begging, the students were eventually allowed to leave at 8:15 instead of 8:30. They poured out the exits, and carried on with their night.
