Braintree’s historic Thayer Public Library is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. Founded in 1874, the library has been serving the community ever since.
“The library offers something for everyone, providing books, programs, and resources free of charge to all individuals,” Terese Stano, a member of Thayer Public Library staff, commented on the historic anniversary.
“It was a privilege and milestone to celebrate 150 years of library services for the residents of Braintree… It’s important to commemorate the rich history of the past and to recognize how the community and individuals came together to enhance the lives of Braintree residents by establishing a free public library.”
To celebrate the monumental date, Thayer Public Library hosted many special events throughout the year, including meet and greets, sessions to make birthday cards, and sessions involving learning the history of General Sylvanus Thayer. Chief among these events was a special event on September 24th that provided documents ranging from old maps to letters and newspaper clippings that documented the history of Thayer Public Library from its start to its present.
“The month long celebration was a great time, and I hope everyone who participated had a wonderful experience.”
