This school year, the class sizes at Braintree High School have increased significantly due to the lower number of teachers available after last year’s budget cut. Seven teachers at BHS were cut, and after just about a month of school, teachers in the Braintree district are starting to get a feel for the larger class sizes.
“Last year’s APUSH class was actually the largest we have ever had, and this year beats them by 17 students, so in a way, the difference is in degrees,” AP US History teacher Mr. Pelletier stated, “I have a harder time getting to the students, and that’s what I really need to do in my room.”
These changes have presented a challenge for Mr. Pelletier as well as many other teachers at the high school and other schools within the district. In addition to teachers being impacted by the dramatic changes, Braintree students are noticing it as well.
“I really enjoy smaller classes; like last year in my Spanish class there were less than twenty kids, and it felt more like a community. But now with the bigger classes… you feel kind of more alone in a crowd,” BHS senior Alexandria Middleton stated.
