The Braintree High Math Team began for the new school year on Tuesday, September 24. Due to the competitors having a great year last year, they are ecstatic to get back into the flow of things and have high hopes of making it to Nationals.
“Many students had outstanding individual performances, but I am most proud [of] how well the group works as a team,” team advisor Mrs. Wood commented.
The hard work seemed to pay off as the team achieved high ranks and scores in the previous competition season.
“We were actually pretty good; we made playoffs… and then we made states last year for the first time in a while,” expressed junior Bella Tran.
After immense struggle and a lot of perseverance, the team was able to secure a trophy for their victory in the playoffs. This pushes the team to work even harder this year to match and exceed the expectations established from last year.
“[The trophy] would make us want to win more this year,” Tran continued.
As for the upcoming year, the team not only wants to win another trophy or two, but they also hope to become more well-known.
“Our math team has always been competitive in our league, but I think finally getting physical recognition is a huge motivator for our students. They really want to get another trophy this year so that we have reason to build a trophy case,” explained Mrs. Wood.
