This year, 10th graders are enrolling in the Innovation Career Pathway Program, a new program offered at BHS as a pathway implemented by the state.
This innovative career pathway iservesas a pathway and guide for students to connect with specific fields that they may be interested in pursuing in the future. The two career programs that are being offered this year are business and healthcare, which hasvealready garnered interest from the class of 2027, enrolling around 32 students between the two pathways. The interest is for good reason; unlike regular classes, the program provides multiple different styles of education as students progress through high school.
“As we get into 11th and 12th grade, it’s going to build on some of
those other things, being experience, activities, and field work, to expose them to other things in the industry they can’t get from their coursework,” states the head of the guidance department, Mr. Garofalo.
These modern methods of learning can be enticing and exciting for many students at BHS who might be swayed to enroll. Although the program is only offered to incoming 10th graders this year, many upperclassmen still recognize how effective the program could be in realizing career opportunities for students.
“I think it would give me a leg up on other students at other schools who don’t have this program; it’s really cool, and I wish I had that opportunity as a freshman.” Says Senior, Will Sciacia.
Although it’s a relatively new program to Massachusetts, implemented by former Governor Charlie Baker in 2017, the program continues to grow to numerous high schools throughout the state. With the program’s popularity and its modern teaching style, BHS can only hope the program grows to be successful and effective for its alumni.
“The schools that have done it talk about it being very successful and very popular with the kids.” States, Mr. Garofalo.
