This year the school district has cracked down on the school cell phone policy at BHS. This crackdown came after a similar attempt in the previous school year to get rid of phones in the classroom. Last year the school committee did not mandate, but strongly encouraged teachers to collect cell phones in pockets at the beginning of each period. This process may have worked for a little bit but as the school year went on the growing consensus from administrators was that the system wasn’t working as well as they had hoped.
“I don’t think it was as effective as it could have been, many students found a way around it,” says guidance counselor, Mr. Mazza.
However, going into the 2024-25 school year the school committee mandated the cell phone rule that all phones must be put away in a cell phone holder for the entirety of the class period. In addition to mandating this rule, BHS administration has also set stricter punishments for any student who is found not following the cell phone policy. All of these new changes and crack downs were met with mixed opinions from Braintree high students.
“I don’t really care but I would rather not have to do it,” says, junior Joe McDonald.
