Thursday, May 30th, former president Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in regards to covering up a scandal that could have affected the 2016 election.
“The fact that Trump is the current Republican nominee and then he was convicted of a crime, that’s a huge deal because we’ve never faced this as a country. So there’s questions being thrown out about constitutionally, will he be able to pardon himself, is he eligible to be president”, shared history teacher Mr. Krall.
While there is a lot of uncertainty and questions in regards to Trump’s political future, he will still be able to run for president, as there are no laws preventing criminals from being presidential candidates. That being said, there is debate about whether it is right to have a president with criminal charges.
Sophomore Ty Yuen expressed, “I don’t think we should vote for a person with 34 felonies.”
Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11th, which is just four days before the Republican National Convention, and is also currently dealing with three other criminal cases.
