On Friday, November 3rd, Braintree High’s Football team beat Brockton 28-20. The game was just a consolation game, but it provided one last home game for the Wamps this season. Students filled the stands with their ski goggles and puffer jackets ready to cheer, thankful for one last student section. The game itself was close throughout with Braintree only a touchdown behind Brockton for most of the game, ending the half with 14-7 and the third 20-13. However, in the fourth quarter when Braintree was on the defense, senior captain, Joe Pendergast, intercepted a pass from Brockton’s quarterback and was able to run the ball to just outside the endzone.
“It’s the dream of a lot of players at my position and it was just thrilling. Someone had to make a play and I’m glad I could deliver for my team. It helped us get the win against a team that beat us last year” Pendergast says.
The team then got the touchdown, ran in by junior, James Curry. The two point conversion by senior Danny DaSilva put the Wamps ahead 21-20. In the final minute of the game, Curry was able to extend the lead with another touchdown. The final score was 28-20, Braintree.
